On Liberation –<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Haiti’s participation in extending the notion of liberation is still relevant to our understanding of freedom and of being free, to being a citizen, sovereign and a subject.  Liberation moved from the conceptual and was situated in the corporeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Haitian visual artists offer a meditation on liberation in this new public installation on the BAM sign, presented as part of DanceAfrica 2021. Inspired by Haiti\u2019s legacy as one of the first independent nations in the Western Hemisphere, BAM Curator at Large Larry Ossei-Mensah invites these artists\u2014and the Brooklyn community\u2014to reflect on and draw strength from Haiti\u2019s groundbreaking history in the midst of today\u2019s calls for justice, equality, and liberation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Return: Liberation as Power<\/em> features work by Delphine Desane, M. Florine D\u00e9mosth\u00e8ne, Mark Fleuridor, Adler Guerrier, Kathia St. Hilare, and Didier William.
